Dante, a 2 to 3
year old mini Poodle, now weighing about 20 pounds, was found
abandoned in a ditch several weeks ago. He was initially rescued
by a caring family that then contacted us to take him into our rescue.
Apparently, Dante was hit by a car and injured his left knee. He
had unsuccessful surgery to repair his injury and was referred to a
Veterinarian Orthopedic Surgeon in Memphis, TN. Now that he has
had sufficient time to heal from the initial injury and initial
surgery, it has been decided that no further surgery will be done at
this time. Dante has a "gimpy" leg, but he does not appear to be
bothered by it. He runs, jumps, and plays like the puppy he is.
Dante is in now foster with a wonderful family in Memphis, TN. According to his foster Mom, he is the sweetest dog she has ever know. He loves just being with his person and lap time is one of his favorite times. He is house trained and will use a doggie door. He will sleep in a crate at night but prefers to sleep under the covers with his people. Dante is now looking for a forever home with someone that will provide him with the love and attention he deserves. Click here to visit Dante's special web page. If you are interested in adopting Dante, please fill out and submit an adoption application. This
pet requires a securely fenced yard. |

Baxter had a nice home with his human Mom and Dad. He was loved and well cared for; that is until a horrible day last fall when his home caught fire. Everyone got out of the house, but Dad thought that Baxter was still inside. He went back in to get his dog to safety. Dad got burned while looking for Baxter in the burning house. He was hospitalized for his burns and a month later, died as a result of complications of the burns and treatment for them. Click here to visit Baxter's web page for more of his story and pictures. Baxter has become a regular couch potato, house dog. He will need a securely fenced yard and someone to love him. He is a 2-3 year old, 52 pound Blue Tic Coonhound and Australian Shepherd mix. He has been neutered and his inoculations are up to date. Baxter is heartworm negative and on preventative. He is house trained, but he loves to run outside. He has been good around his foster parents nephews, aged 11 and 13. He will bark at strangers who come by, but once they pet him, he is fine. If you are interested in adopting Baxter, please fill out and submit an adoption application. This
pet requires a securely fenced yard. |

A Standard Poodle, about 3 to 4 1/2 years old, Little Boy is the smaller of the two Standard Poodles from the rescue in east Tennessee. At the time of rescue, he was painfully thin, was horribly matted and suffered from mange. He has been groomed, successfully treated for mange, grown a lovely coat and put on weight - now about 55 pounds. He is still unsure of himself with most people and continues to undergo special rehab and socialization. He now seems to look forward to his training sessions and enjoys the special time he gets with his trainer. Little Boy appears to be gaining confidence and we hope will be ready for a forever home soon. Little Boy is negative for heartworms and is on prevention. He will need a home, without small children, that can work with his shyness and help him become the loving companion dog he wants to be. |

I HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!! Rocky is a healthy and active, 10 year old, Yorkshire Terrier that is looking for a new home. His Mommy is very sick and her family asked us to take him into rescue and find him a home where he will be showered with the love and attention he needs and deserves. This little dog was used to being the center of attention and now misses his Mommy very much. He seems to prefer ladies that are "round" like his former Mommy but is always happy for any loving and attention. Rocky is doing very well in his foster home. His favorite activities are going for rides in the car, lap time, sniffing all the smells in the fenced yard, and chewing on bones and squeaky toys. He tolerates the other small dogs in his foster home and plays with the resident German Shepherd Dog. |

I HAVE BEEN ADOPTED!!!
Violet, a Standard
Poodle, standing about 22 inches at the shoulder, is an energetic
girl. She will try to get into her foster Mom's lap if she feels
that she is being ignored. Violet plays well with the other dogs
in her foster home, but has a bit to much youthful exuberance for the
tiny dogs. She has done very well with her house training.
Violet is very loving, loves to play and gets along well with other dogs. It is recommended that she be in a home with older children only, due to her activity levels. She has demonstrated a high degree of agility in her play. Her play yard has 6 foot fencing and she has never tried to climb it. However, due to her jumping ability, her yard fencing should be about 6 feet tall. Violet may be an agility prospect. Her ability to focus will determine that. She tries very hard to please, and should do well with formal obedience training. |

I am adopted!!
Rowdy, our Parvo
survivor, 3-month-old, long haired miniature Dachshund in now
available for adoption. It appears that Rowdy may be a "Tweeny
Doxie" but only time will tell as he matures.
Rowdy came to us with Parvo with his litter mate brother when they were 6 weeks old. Please, click here, to go to their page to see photos and to read Rowdy's story of survival. He has not only survived, but has recuperated and become every bit an active, normal puppy. He plays well with all the dogs in his foster home. He has no fear; challenging the 4 pound Chihuahua as well as the 70 pound Standard Poodles to a rousing game of chase and tag. He loves to give puppy kisses and will snuggle when tired out after a hard play time. He is doing well with his housetraining and is learning basic obedience. Rowdy is crate trained and walks well on leash. Rowdy has blossomed under the play and attention of Sugar, another WKR dog. |

I HAVE BEEN ADOPTED! Barbie is a 9 lb poodle mix (possibly Shih Tzu?) who is ready to go to her new home. Our vets estimated her to be 3 to 4 yrs old. After spending a few weeks recovering from her time on her own, she has gained weight and confidence once again. When she was rescued from the shelter she had very long matted fur and was an absolute mess. A grooming revealed a cute little girl with big brown eyes and a large smile - she has a bit of an underbite, a Shih Tsu trait, hence the delightful smile. Barbie is a happy little girl, full of happiness and love to give. She is house trained, crate trained, loves attention, loves car rides and sitting in laps. She is a cuddle dog extraordinaire. Playing fetch is a delightfully favorite activity. She loves to play with squeaky toys and enjoys walks in the neighborhood doing very well on leash. |

ROSIE HAS BEEN ADOPTED! These girls have done well after being separated. Rosie has adjusted well with her new family and Violet is ready for a family of her own.
Both of these young ladies are energetic as young Standard Poodles normally are. They like to play chase and tag and are learning how to play fetch with their foster parents. Although they both were thin when they came into rescue, they are gaining weight as they should. All vetting, including spay has been done, both are heartworm negative and on prevention. |

Handsome is one of the dogs that was rescued after being abandoned on a mountain top in east TN. A large Standard Poodle, about 6 to 8 years old, Handsome is now handsome after grooming and gaining some weight - now 60 pounds. Before being clipped, it was thought that he had a black coat. However, we were surprised to see that his is actually a lovely charcoal gray or what is called a blue. He had serious ear infections which are now clearing. He is friendly and seeks attention. This gentle boy is also good with all the small dogs that came into rescue with him. Handsome has found a wonderful home with a 4 legged sister and a very good mom and dad. He is now called Beauregard, and loves his new home. |

Cassandra (Cassie), is a white, Standard Poodle, about 22" at the shoulder, and 43 pounds. She is a delightful young lady of 6 years of age, and loves to sneak naps on the couch when no one is looking. Cassie is good with children and dogs/cats.
