We are a non-profit group of
volunteers working to:
Rescue
Evaluate
Rehabilitate
Provide Veterinary Care
Re-home Pets in Need
These pets usually come to us as unwanted owner turn-ins, from abusive homes, *puppy
mills, local shelters and breeders. Without rescue they would likely have lost their
lives.
We have veterinarians that work with West Kentucky Rescue, who provide services to these
companion animals. All vet work is completed before a pet is ready to travel to its' new
home. This includes mandatory spaying or neutering, a complete health check-up and any
necessary treatment, blood test for heart-worms, fecal test for internal parasites and
appropriate vaccinations.
While awaiting placement, all our rescues are kept in foster homes, socialized and cared
for as if they were our own and are subsequently adopted to inside homes only. West
Kentucky Rescue will not adopt to those who plan to keep the pet outdoors for extended
periods, chained up or tied out without supervision or left to run free outside a fenced
yard. Adopters are to provide a nutritious and well balanced diet, plenty of fresh water,
appropriate ongoing vet care including heart-worm and flea preventative and a home
environment of love and kindness.
An adoption application is required by us which includes references and a volunteer
visiting you at home. There will be an adoption fee. This donation helps to off-set
the cost of vet bills, shelter fees and other costs incurred by us.
We have certain criteria that must be met to adopt a pet from us. We reserve the right to
refuse adoption to anyone we deem unsuitable. Our primary concern is for the pet and to
ensure that the match made is a good one that will last for life.
The potential adopter will have to agree that the pet be returned to West Kentucky Rescue
if, for any reason, they are unable to keep it. West Kentucky Rescue will also remove any
pet that in their opinion is subsequently kept by the adopter in an unsatisfactory manner.
Volunteer transport 'may' be available from the rescue to the new home in the form of
drivers who offer their services to get a pet 'home'. These volunteer services are not
available in all areas and transport is usually the responsibility of the adopter.
